Superfoods that Double as Aphrodisiacs: Achieving Harder Erections with Nutrition

Superfoods that Double as Aphrodisiacs: Achieving Harder Erections with Nutrition

When it comes to getting our groove on in the bedroom, we tend to overlook the role of food. Although medications and treatments help in erectile dysfunction, nutrition plays an important role in getting harder erections, too. In this article, we'll let you in on what foods can get your blood flowing and can give your sex life a boost.

Connection Between Foods and Erectile Dysfunction

According to a study from JAMA Network Open, keeping a healthy diet may reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED). They gathered data from 40-75-year old men who provided information about their diet every four years (spanning from 1998 to 2014). Aside from these men’s diets, the researchers also considered their smoking habits, self-reported diseases, medication usages, and more.

The researchers mainly evaluated the men’s adherence to Mediterranean diet. This type of diet is known for its abundance of veggies, fruits, nuts, fish, and unsaturated fats (while limiting meats and whole-fat dairy foods). Over the years, they found out that those who closely followed Mediterranean diet had a lower chance of experiencing erectile dysfunction (regardless of age).

Compared to the one-third of men under 60 who didn't stick to the diet as much, the one-third who adhered to it had a 22% lower risk of ED. Same way, the most compliant men aged 60 to 70 enjoyed an 18% reduced risk, while those aged 70 and over had a 7% decrease in risk.

Dr. Scott R. Bauer (the study’s lead author) stressed that the study was observational and further confirmation through randomised trials is necessary. Be that as it may, he also emphasised that men who want to maintain harder erections should keep an eye on what they eat to keep things running smoothly in the bedroom.

Best Superfoods to Try for Harder Erections

Watermelon

Did you know that watermelon can act as a natural viagra? Watermelon is a natural source of citrulline. It’s an amino acid that turns into arginine in your body. Arginine promotes better circulation which then gives you a boost in the bedroom through harder erections.

Dark Chocolate

Indulging in a small piece of dark chocolate daily may have benefits for your sexual health. Dark chocolate contains flavonoids that can enhance your blood flow and keep your arteries in tip-top shape. To boot, these sweet treats can stimulate the release of endorphins—those feel-good hormones that can heighten your sexual pleasure.

Spinach

This leafy wonder is rich in folate—keeping your blood flowing smoothly and preventing buildup of plaque in your arteries. Spinach is also loaded with magnesium, which is crucial for the production of testosterone that keeps your sexual function in tune.

Oysters

Oysters have been hailed as the ultimate passion boosters. So much so that science backs it up! They are an excellent source of Zinc, which fuels testosterone production. Adequate levels of zinc in the body are great for maintaining harder erections.

Maca

Say hello to maca, the Peruvian root veggie that's gained popularity for its potential benefits in improving sexual function. Maca contains compounds that can enhance libido and amp up your energy levels (not to mention give your erections some serious strength). It’s also rich in plant sterols (like beta-sitosterol) which can help manage hormone levels and improve sexual health overall.

Pistachio Nuts

Pistachio nuts are packed with arginine, an amino acid that's all about boosting blood flow and making sure everything down there is working at its best. These nuts are also rich in antioxidants and healthy fats that support your heart health. Remember: a happy heart equals firmer, longer-lasting erections!

Tribulus

Tribulus is a plant that's been used to crank up the heat in the bedroom for centuries. It’s a natural performance enhancer that boosts testosterone levels and amps up your erectile function. This rather ancient plant packs a punch with active compounds like saponins (especially protodioscin) which kickstart the release of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide relaxes and widens your penis' blood vessels—resulting in better blood flow and rock-solid erections!

Ginseng

You’ve probably heard of ginseng—the herb that's been rocking the aphrodisiac scene for ages. Just like tribulus, ginseng has its own special ingredients called ginsenosides. These little guys work their magic and boost nitric oxide production, which results in long-lasting erections.

Ginkgo

Ginkgo biloba is famous as a brain-boosting herb. While it helps with brain function, it contains active components like flavonoids and terpenoids that enhance blood flow in your body (including your penis).
