The aftermath of an orgasm slowly causes the penis to lose its erection, with the accompanying blood flow slowing down as well. The man will feel relaxed or tired, requiring a recovery phase until he can develop another erection. For teens, the recovery time can be under 15 minutes. In contrast, elderly adults can take close to 20 hours before they can regain the ability to sustain an erection.

Some men can develop problems reaching orgasm due to psychological factors, such as a traumatic event or masturbation patterns.
